The First Tatarstani-Indian Biopharmaceutical Forum: development of high-tech industries and secrets of longevity

November 19-20, 2018, marked a new stage in the development of Tatarstani-Indian relations. During the business visit, a large delegation, which included representatives of the Government and business circles of India, first of all, got acquainted with the economy and investment climate of Tatarstan. In Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, the guests plunged into the Tatarstan environment and outlined ways of further cooperation.

"Tatarstan is fantastic! We are delighted with your infrastructure and wealth in the form of resources. I am very glad that today PHARMEXCIL was represented to 27 Tatarstan’s companies determined to fruitful cooperation. We will consider all possible collaborations. We are very interested in relations with the Republic, and we will continue our joint work. Thank you for everything, Tatarstan!" the Director General of PHARMEXCIL (Council for the promotion of pharmaceutical products of India) Ravi Uday Bhaskar commended.

The Council includes 3,5 thousand companies, its activities are aimed at bringing Indian companies to the Russian market and attracting Indian investments.

Tatarstan traditionally attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with India. The country is one of the key customers of Kazan Helicopter Plant. "KAMAZ" trucks are well known in India. In the field of oil refining and petrochemistry, cooperation takes place through Tatarstan’s companies "Tatneft" and "TAIF". Tatarstan is interested in the supply of trucks, ships, petrochemical products, tires, gas pumping equipment. fertilizers production, pharmacology, IT-technology and health care are among the priority areas of cooperation.

"Last month, during the last visit of the representatives of Indian business circles to the capital of Tatarstan, the possibility of localization of production capacities in the field of mechanical engineering was discussed. Today we discuss that the infrastructure of Tatarstan, its raw materials and the ability of Indian specialists to create high-quality low-cost drugs are prerequisites for implementation of successful joint pharmaceutical production. Based on the Strategy of socio-economic development of the Republic of Tatarstan till 2030, we give priority in partnership, which also helps to preserve health and longevity of citizens and development of business on the territory of our Republic", the Head of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Taliya Minullina shared.

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most important strategic directions of India's development. The country is among 15 global leading manufacturers of medication and produces over 20 thousand items of finished drug forms, taking the third place in the world. The system of state support for innovative companies and the creation of supporting infrastructure also works effectively. All this was a prerequisite for the Tatarstani-Indian biopharmaceutical forum, which was held for the first time on November 19-20 in Kazan.

The forum is aimed at development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries of Tatarstan and India, the joint success of which contributes to achievement of another strategic goal – the creation of conditions for longevity.

The event was attended by 100 people. Ravi Uday Bhaskar noted that the main purpose of his visit is to enter the Russian market through Tatarstani sites. Thus, the conditions of doing business in Tatarstan and providing preferences to investors were discussed, pharmaceutical enterprises with which cooperation can be established, as well as sites for factories, cooperation in R&D and best  technologies were represented.
