Modern shipbuilding complex might be built in Tatarstan

Water transport in Russia is an instrument of economic growth, which allows
to deliver goods and raw materials cheaply and timely. However, today the
share of water transport supplies in the Russian Federation is only 2 per cent.
Over the past 15 years, ship traffic has decreased significantly due to the fact
that the fleet is not updated. In the State program of the Russian Federation
"Development of shipbuilding for 2013-2030", the need for 1240 units of these
vessels for 10 years is identified. The issue of the availability of vessels
adapted to the characteristics and condition of inland waterways is particularly
acute today. In this regard, the Head of Tatarstan Investment Development
Agency Taliya Minullina held talks on the development of shipbuilding and
shipping in Tatarstan.

Heads of Russian and foreign companies presented a joint project on creation
of new generation shipbuilding complex for the serial construction of
composite vessels "river-sea" of a new type. It is the river-sea type vessels
that are designed to carry out direct transportation even from the distant
inland areas to the outer seas.

"Having studied the whole geography, we started to look for a place with a
proper territory, infrastructure and logistics. According to all indicators,
Tatarstan looks much more interesting for the implementation of our project
and is more suitable than other regions of Russia," - the investors noted.

3 territories are considered for the implementation of the project: Chistopol,
Kamskie Polyany and Sviyazhskiy interregional multimodal logistics center.

"The project has all the mechanisms for rapid response to demand in
shipbuilding and other industries. Having studied the best global experience of
production automation, we have optimized its components to solve a wide
range of industry and inter-industry problems," - the guests stressed.

Taliya Minullina mentioned that one of the largest and strategically important
shipbuilding enterprises of Russia - Zelenodolsk plant named after A.M.
Gorkiy is situated on the territory of Tatarstan. In 2015, the plant celebrated
the 120th anniversary of its industrial activity. Over the years of its history, the
plant has built more than 1500 sea and river ships and vessels of various
classes and purposes. The vessels produced are exported as well.

Taliya Minullina also told about two other companies of the industry, including
the company for the production of small vessels "Velvette Marine" and offered
to consider the possibility of implementing the project with local
manufacturers. Therefore, the negotiations were continued with the
participation of JSC "Ak Bars" shipbuilding company.

"Tatarstan is ready to take part in improving the transport system of Russia.
We share the position that the solution of country development tasks is
impossible without the creation of a new production of the highest
technological level. Tatarstan Investment Development Agency will make the
project expertise to be able to talk about the prospects for its implementation,"
- Taliya Minullina summed up.

As developers declared, the production has no analogs. The number of jobs in
the project can reach 300.
