Sergey Lavrov: “The activities of the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group headed by Rustam Minnikhanov gain in particular importance”

20 June 2019, Thursday

The Mansion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia hosted an event introducing the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group which was attended by ambassadors of the Muslim countries in Russia, leaders of religious organizations, heads of the Russia’s constituents, and representatives of government authorities, academic and expert circles.

“The measures of the Russian leadership aimed at strengthening the traditionally friendly relations with the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are vigorously supported by the general public, our regions, especially those where a large percentage of population is Muslims. We are pleased to note the same attitude of mind among our partners from Muslim countries.

In this context, the activities of the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, which on behalf of the President Vladimir Putin is headed by the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, gain in particular importance. It will have to deal with sensitive tasks to multilaterally coordinate efforts of civil society, business circles, religious associations, scholars, youth, art and culture figures – all those who strive to contribute to building up ties between Russia and the Islamic world,” emphasized Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

“We are actively working with our partners from OIC countries. During the time I am the Chairman of the Group, we managed to hold meetings in Kazan, Moscow, Grozny and Makhachkala. Rest assured that this work will continue further; this will be a kind of presentation of regions for the countries which representatives are members of our Group. It is worth noting that for ten years in a row the KazanSummit International Economic Summit has been held in Kazan together with colleagues from the federal government with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 38 Russian regions, 72 countries, 3,800 participants – these numbers tell the stories best, proving once again that the KazanSummit site is the place where certain agreements and ideas develop into the economics,” said Rustam Minnikhanov.
