President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Chairman of the State Development Corporation VEB.RF Igor Shuvalov visited Innopolis University today. Igor Drozdov, Chairman of the Board of the Skolkovo Foundation, also took part in the inspection.
Today, 893 students from 44 countries study here. The plan is to at least double the number of students. To do this, it is planned to build 3 new residential buildings for 1 thousand people.
Also, during the visit to Innopolis, a meeting was held on the development of innovative ecosystems of Skolkovo and Innopolis in the technopark named after N. I. Lobachevsky, located in the Innopolis SEZ. The meeting participants discussed the implementation of joint projects of the Innopolis SEZ and the Skolkovo Foundation, the expansion of cooperation between Skoltech and Innopolis University, as well as joint projects with VEB.RF to develop innovative infrastructure in Innopolis.
The President of Tatarstan noted that in the current conditions the role of the IT industry has increased significantly. Tatarstan has always paid special attention to the development of the IT sector. There are about 3 thousand companies and more than 40 thousand specialists in the IT industry of the republic.
Rustam Minnikhanov drew attention to the fact that Innopolis plays a special role in innovative development. “Innopolis is not a republican platform, but a powerful federal IT center that solves problems on a national scale. 323 companies work here, we see an increase in financial indicators. The number of residents of the city is growing,” he noted.
Igor Shuvalov, in turn, highly appreciated the development potential of Innopolis. “The city has taken shape, the social infrastructure is developing, first-class jobs have been created. A special place is occupied by Innopolis University. Together with the Skolkovo project and Skoltech, we plan to build a real partnership with Innopolis. We hope to become flagships of the country's innovative development agenda here. In the current conditions, we must first of all rely on our own strengths,” he said.
Igor Shuvalov emphasized that a huge scientific and technological potential has been accumulated in Tatarstan. “Talented people live here. The Republic is changing. Kazan is one of the best cities not only in Russia but also in Europe. We hope that by joining our efforts we will be able to provide the best opportunities for those who are going to support innovative development. Tatarstan and Innopolis have a great future,” said the head of VEB.RF.
At the end of the meeting, a number of cooperation documents were signed: between the Innopolis SEZ and the Skolkovo Foundation, as well as between Innopolis University and Skoltech.
