Taliya Minullina: "Conservation of nature is the responsibility of each of us"
Head of the Agency for Investment Development of the Republic of Tatarstan Taliya Minullina took part in the plenary session "Green transition: global challenges - local actions" in the framework of the TCI Network global cluster conference.
The head of the Agency told the conference participants about the priorities of the ESG agenda in Tatarstan, which companies are working on it, and how to educate society about the environment.
“Our Agency has a department for the examination of investment projects. They check the financial models of projects, social and economic performance, and, among other things, there are environmental indicators in the report for each project. Because, for example, even if we attract an investor from the largest company in the world, and this investor entails a negative impact on the environment of the region, we, as members of the Government, will say no to such a project. And this is a very important point, ”said Taliya Minullina.
Tatarstan has a very rich history of social and economic development, and you need to have really high competencies in working on investments in the region in order to say no to even large projects. “We do not hunt for investments at breakneck speed, and this makes our doors open to all investors and all projects, where Tatarstan can choose which project to implement,” added the head of the department.
Taliya Minullina also noted that there are companies that conduct ESG policies within their enterprises (KAMAZ, Tatneft, TAIF-NK, Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Kazanorgsintez, Ak Bars Bank), but the cost of implementing such technologies is not so affordable for small and medium-sized businesses.
“Today, not only in Russia, but also globally, society may not be as active in promoting requests for products or services. And in this matter (note - ESG agenda), I consider it right to start such work and bring it up in society from a young age, from kindergarten and schools. Explain to children how we can preserve the environment during this period, because it is very difficult to change a person who is already formed, ”she summed up her speech.
The head of the Agency stated the need to show each child that this is the responsibility of each of us, "the responsibility to save our planet."
