Chairman of TIDA Public Advisory Board is Appointed

Today the Public Advisory Board of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency (TIDA) held its first meeting of 2013.

The TIDA Public Advisory Board was formed on the basis of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan’s directive «On Public Advisory Boards for Ministries and Government Bodies of the Republic of Tatarstan».

During the meeting, TIDA Chief Executive Linar Yakupov briefed the members about the work TIDA does towards attracting foreign investment into priority sectors of the economy of Tatarstan.

«Our eight priority sectors are chemical & petrochemical, machinery & automotive parts production, construction & building materials production, agriculture & food processing, medicine & pharmaceuticals, IT & telecommunications, halal industry, and service industry & tourism», - he explained. - «Chemical & petrochemical, machinery & automotive parts production, construction & building materials production, agriculture & food processing – these are four sectors where Tatarstan has traditionally been strong and there is great potential for growth. The four remainig sectors – medicine & pharmaceuticals, IT & telecommunications, halal industry, and service industry & tourism – are emerging sectors of our economy where we are also seeking foreign investment».

Linar Yakupov explained to the Public Advisory Board that TIDA is prepared to organize meetings with representatives from each of these sectors of the economy to carry out detailed studies of their current state, current demands, and problems that might exist.

«We would like to gather together private companies that work in medicine to discuss current challenges they face and what can be done to help them to work with larger companies,” explained Linar Yakupov. “In each of these sectors we will hold events to discuss the current status, how they believe that investment could be useful, and what type of investment is needed».

The TIDA Chief Executive similarly briefed the Public Advisory Board about the developments that have been made in the planning of Kazan Smart City, a new investment site for Tatarstan.

The Public Advisory Board also discussed the draft of a law about investment infrastructure in Tatarstan and the draft of the program «Forming an Attractive Investment Climate in the Republic of Tatarstan, 2014-2020».

During the meeting, the TIDA Public Advisory Board elected its Chairman and Vice Chairman. Timur Khalikov, Chaiman of the Committee of Questions of Economic Development of the Tatarstan Public Chamber, was elected Chairman of the TIDA Public Advisory Board and Lyalya Bikchentaeva, Executive Director of the Youth Achievements Center of Kazan, was elected Vice Chairman.
