Andrey Sharonov, General Director of the National Alliance on Social and Environmental Responsibility, Corporate Governance and Sustainable Development, outlined the interest of companies in researching the social situation in the cities of their presence. He spoke about the Alliance Index, which covered 120 cities in 106 regions of Russia and assessed 70 indicators on the availability of housing, work, level of medicine, education, recreation and leisure, urban environment, and also included an indicator of confidence in the future, safety.


Every sixth resident of Russia lives in a city with a population of less than 100 thousand. The study showed that closed cities create the best living conditions, Arctic cities provide great career opportunities, but show low satisfaction with the quality of the urban environment, developing small cities are outsiders in the development of medicine and career opportunities, the best conditions are offered by the “cities with prosperity” designated in the study "


Representatives of Russian regions shared their experiences. Thus, Moscow is actively working in partnership with cities around the world within the framework of “Urban20” and aims to develop, based on a large number of experimental projects in the field of ecology, standard solutions that will enjoy the confidence of investors. The Sverdlovsk region informed about the 100 percent implementation of export standard 2.0. Deputy Head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Marina Epifantseva spoke about Tatarstan’s ESG performance, focusing on infrastructure development and 2023 indicators.


Igor Kanyukov, attache of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, outlined opportunities for Russian regions to patent their trademarks in international organizations. Last year, Russia joined the Lisbon Geographical Indication System. Registration on an international platform allows regional tourism brands to become famous not only within Russia, but also in the world. So far, this opportunity has been used only to patent Gzhel.


Natalya Dorpeko, Executive Director of the National Network of the Global Compact Association, noted that in the current global situation, “it is very important that business continues to communicate, and civil society interacts at the international level.”
