The round table "Tatarstan - Ethiopia" was held today at the Investment Development Agency of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was attended by the head of the TIDA Taliya Minullina, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan Oleg Korobchenko, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Federal Republic of Ethiopia Misganu Arga Moach, the Minister of Mines of Ethiopia Habtamu Tegegne, the heads and representatives of large companies of the republic such as KAMAZ, EIDOS, JSC Kazan Helicopter Plant, JSC Tatkhimpharmpreparaty, JSC Nefis Cosmetics and others.
The Ethiopian delegation arrived in Kazan headed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. At the meeting, the parties spoke about the industrial and investment potential of their regions. They discussed further development of cooperation between Tatarstan and Ethiopia.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Misganu Arga Moach, thanked for the warm welcome:
— You are hosting the BRICS summit, and this in itself is evidence of your ability to organize such important events. Russia is one of our strong, reliable partners, both as a member of the BRICS family and, in general, as a long-standing friend of Ethiopia. Therefore, naturally, there are many opportunities that we can explore, and in the case of relations with Tatarstan, the potential is truly great: here we have both increased investment cooperation and trade relations.
The speaker expressed the country's readiness to develop investment and trade cooperation. "Ethiopia is ready to attract investments from Tatarstan," he emphasized, adding that his country has experience in attracting foreign direct investment, especially in the agro-industrial sector.
"Ethiopia can become a gateway for investment to Africa, to the African continent, we have a very fast-growing economy," said Misganu Arga Moach, noting the most attractive areas for cooperation: the mining industry, the industrial sector and others. "I invite Tatarstan businessmen and companies to get acquainted with the opportunities of Ethiopia, especially in the manufacturing sector."
The Ethiopian minister emphasized that his country is aware of Tatarstan's achievements in the agricultural and oil refining industries, in the production of equipment, cars, and aviation. All this, according to him, can be significant for the development of trade in Ethiopia - a country with a population of 125 million people. This is a huge market, the fastest growing among the BRICS countries, he noted. In addition, Ethiopia is called the main aviation hub, which also opens up broad opportunities for cooperation.
It should be noted that Ethiopia has industrial and agro-industrial parks, ICT parks, a pharmaceutical park in the suburbs of Addis Ababa, and a free trade zone in the city of Dire Dawa.
The head of the TIDA, Taliya Minullina, presented the potential of Tatarstan as a Russian region with the best investment climate in English. She noted that the republic is the only subject of the country with 100 industrial parks and sites with electricity, gas, and all the necessary infrastructure for residents:
The delegation has already visited the Made in Tatarstan exhibition as part of the BRICS summit. The presentation was held by the head of the TIDA.
