The day before, the head of the Investment Development Agency of the Republic of Tatarstan, Taliya Minullina, met with an entrepreneur from the Zainsky district, Ildar Hafizov. He presented to the head an idea aimed at strengthening the technological sovereignty of the country, replacing lithium-ion batteries, which China mainly supplies to Russia, with sodium-ion batteries.
Ildar Hafizov: "The importance of LI-ON batteries and batteries in the Russian industry is growing: robots, instrumentation, communications, satellite groups, electric vehicles. It all runs on batteries and accumulators. Lithium is a rare earth metal. China is the main supplier of batteries and its components on the world market. I suggest sodium as an alternative to lithium. It is the sixth most abundant element in the Earth's crust. Sodium-ion batteries are no different from lithium-ion batteries. Even the cell production line is the same. Only the chemical composition changes. And while Chinese sodium batteries have not flooded our market, there is an opportunity to organize our own production, gaining technological sovereignty in this area!"
Taliya Minullina expressed gratitude for such a patriotic idea and concern for the fate of the country and assured that she would assist in further discussion of the initiative at the level of relevant authorities.
