A film about Tatarstan about achieving the UN SDGs-2025
The presentation of the film was timed to coincide with the final ranking of Russian regions for compliance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals by the Investment Development Agency of the Republic of Tatarstan with the participation of specialists from the UN Information Center in Moscow, the Russian Association for the Promotion of the United Nations, and the MGIMO Institute for International Trade and Sustainable Development.
"We have done a voluntary review of the implementation of the UN SDGs and a video format has been selected for greater clarity. The 26-minute documentary, created by the Tatarstan team, became our first video report on the Sustainable Development Goals, which help to explore the quality of life of our citizens. The goal of the film is to make complex information accessible and visual to a wide audience. Shot entirely in English, it integrates Tatarstan into the international space. I am sure that our example of using UN platforms to spread information about the republic will inspire other territories to create similar video works," said Taliya Minnullina, Head of the Investment Development Agency of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The film "In the stream of life" became a video presentation of the republic's development in terms of key indicators. The figures that appear in the report are revealed through the real stories of the heroes – people who live in Tatarstan. The special feature of the film is that it was shot exclusively in English. The leading characters in the film are J.P. Neal, the coach of the Strela rugby club, his wife and daughters. During the filming of the film, the family visited schools in the republic, Innopolis, national parks, and the confluence of the Volga and Kama Rivers in the Kamsko-Ustinsky district. Through JP's family, the authors wanted to show the republic to those who moved to Tatarstan and live here recently.
"We are amazed by the beauty of Tatarstan, the republic. It's not often that we manage to go somewhere in the far regions of the republic, and this is a discovery for us! Amazing! Stunningly beautiful nature, cuisine, people! An invaluable experience," J.P. Neal shared on the set.
JP's wife Luandi used to work as a radio announcer. Perfect pronunciation, diction and experience - the authors asked her to voice the voiceover of the film.
The second main character of the film was Mikhail Vanyushin, the host of the events and a native of Kazan. He is a guide for the audience to the life of Kazan residents. Some fragments were filmed in Mikhail's yard, where he grew up, in the hero's favorite parks, Mikhail introduced the audience to the local flavor and national cuisine.
Each block and each goal of sustainable development were also revealed through the heroes - foreign students, teachers, representatives of the republic's leading enterprises, people who create a comfortable environment for life in Tatarstan.
"The flagship of our broadcasting company has always been the news. And this experience was very useful during the filming of the film. Every day we are in the very center of big events, but at the same time we always tell the stories of people who live in the republic, how they live, where, how, and what they do. And all this is the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals using concrete examples. But for us, this is not a product of a news format, but of a large documentary film, and GTRK Tatarstan also has a lot of experience in this area," said Firdus Gimaltdinov, General Director of GTRK Tatarstan.
The film "In the stream of life" is a reflection of the life of Tatarstan, this is exactly the task set by the team of authors of the Investment Development Agency of the Republic and the state television and Radio company Tatarstan.
