Today there was an official opening ceremony of the five day workshop on the project of SMART City Kazan in IT-park Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan.

Mr. Linar Yakupov, Chief Executive of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, has  given a  speech opening the workshop.  He noted that the project of SMART City Kazan is to transform Kazan into a new international business hub in order to competitively attract major multinational, Russian and Tatarstan companies.  SMART City Kazan is a project of a modern state-of-art satellite city of Kazan with latest ICT facilities and infrastructure, eco-friendly technologies all of which create high quality social, working and living standards. The project of SMART City Kazan has been presented for the first time this year during the international forum KAZANINVEST 2012. Chief Executive of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency also reinforced the idea that the project of SMART City Kazan is to become a new competency center for the urban design and planning in the republic. Furthermore, Mr. Linar Yakupov mentioned that the international exhibition and convention center will become a major catalyst of the project.

Over 50 people, representatives of Tatarstan Development Corporation, the Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan, Investment and Venture Fund of the Republic Tatarstan, the Executive Committee of Laishevo municipality district of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Malaysian consortium comprised of AJM Planing and Urban Design Group, Straits Consulting Engineers and Amanah Capital Group Limited, TatInvestGrazhdanProekt, ICL-KME CS,  the Institute of Computer Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Jones Lang LaSalle as well as representatives of Tatarstan’s leading universities.

The CEO of Amanah Capital Group Limited, Abas A Jalil, the Managing Director of AJM Planning and Urban Design Group, Norliza Hashim, the Head of Straits Consulting Engineers, Amin Ramli have given a detailed presentation on the international standards of developing  "smart" cities as well as quoted some great examples of “smart” projects  in Malaysia, Korea and China. Multinational company with a vast knowledge and global experience in real estate, Jones Lang LaSalle is interested to cooperate and share its international expertise of the realization of the SMART City Kazan project.

Representatives of TatInvestGrazhdanProekt noted the need for such a project as the SMART City Kazan, stressing on the project’s advantageous location in close proximity to Kazan International airport, and certainly can become one of Tatarstan’s landmarks. The Chancellor of Kazan State Research Technological University, German Dyakonov, expressed an interest to cooperate on the project of SMART City Kazan due to its scientific and technical characteristics.

The closed session was run through the second half of the day. Malaysian consortium¸ TatInvestGrazhdanProekt and Jones Lang LaSalle further discussed the concept of the master plan for the SMART City Kazan project. During this session the parties studied primary data on the project, local characteristics and the standards of urban planning, and shared international experience in the design of  "smart" projects.

The final meeting will take place on the 19th of September, the last day of the workshop.  The improved concept of the master plan will be presented to Tatarstan’s senior officials including the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ildar Khalikov.
