During the official opening ceremony of the five day workshop, on 15th September, Mr. Linar Yakupov, Chief Executive of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency noted that the project of SMART City Kazan is to transform Kazan into a new international business hub in order to competitively attract major multinational, Russian and Tatarstan companies. SMART City Kazan is a project of a modern state-of-art satellite city of Kazan with latest ICT facilities and infrastructure, eco-friendly technologies all of which create high quality social, working and living standards. The project of SMART City Kazan has been presented for the first time this year during the international forum KAZANINVEST 2012. Chief Executive of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency also reinforced the idea that the project of SMART City Kazan is to become a new competency center for the urban design and planning in the republic. Furthermore, Mr. Linar Yakupov mentioned that the international exhibition and convention center will become a major catalyst of the project.
On the second day of the workshop Siemens made a presentation about eco-friendly and energy efficient technologies they have been utilizing on other “smart” projects. Moreover, Siemens Enterprise Communications shared their global experience of creating harmonized user experience using the innovative software platforms and integrating them into the "smart" projects.
Within the five day long workshop the representatives of Tatarstan Development Corporation, the Malaysian consortium comprised of AJM Planning and Urban Design Group, Straits Consulting Engineers and Amanah Capital Group Limited, and TatInvestGrazhdanProekt have been discussing the prospects for cooperation. The Managing Director of AJM Planning and Urban Design Group, Norliza Hashim has given a master class on developing the “smart” cities using the state-of-the-art technology.
It is worth noting the third day meeting when the representatives of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, Amanah Capital Group Limited and AK BARS Capital discussed the perspective collaboration on the implementation of SMART City Kazan project.
Throughout the five-day workshop Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering students were actively involved into the development of the concept of the master plan by representatives of AJM Planning and Urban Design Group. The Malaysian consortium visited SMART City Kazan area situated nearby Kazan International airport in order to further examine local characteristics of the territory and the limitations on the second part of the day.
The final meeting will take place on the 19th of September, the last day of the workshop. The improved concept of the master plan will be presented to Tatarstan’s senior officials including the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ildar Khalikov.
