Tatarstan will become a center of attraction for leading Russian and foreign specialists in the translation industry

29 February 2020, Saturday

The Republic of Tatarstan was chosen to host the XI International Translation Forum Russia 2020 (TFR 2020). Leading Russian and foreign experts in the translation industry will attend Kazan from August 21st to August 23rd.

“Tatarstan is a unique region of Russia, a leader in the investment climate and business hospitality. The Republic regularly hosts major world events and becomes a platform for industry forums and conferences.  We invite everyone to Tatarstan! We are going to boost the translation industry and create a better environment not merely to speak the same language, but to think as one!”  noted Taliya Minullina, the Head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency.

Tatarstan pays great attention to preserving the ethnic identity of the Tatar people - the language and cultural heritage of the Republic - both in Tatarstan and abroad. A separate session on the Tatar language will be held jointly with other national languages within the language section of the conference.

TFR 2020 is the largest specialized conference in Russia and CIS countries to date. Each year it attracts between 300 and 700 participants, including representatives of international organizations such as the European Commission and UN Information Centre, FIT Europe, Belgian Chamber of Translators, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and others.

Having laid the foundation for the formation of the translation industry in Russia, in the last decade Translation Forum Russia has become a catalyst for translation meetings, conferences, and forums not only in Russia but also in Kazakhstan, Belarus, as well as the key factor for the establishment and development of significant translation projects and associations, such as the drafting of an ethical code of conduct for translators (2012-2015) and a professional translation standard (2017-2020).

Various events, accompanied by active discussions and exchange of experience within the translation industry, demonstration of new technological developments in the field of translation, are held during the three days of the business and informal program.

It is no coincidence that the Republic of Tatarstan has been chosen as the venue for the event: it is a dynamically developing region, where the number of major international events is steadily growing, and the Republic's enterprises are more and more actively entering international markets, which requires the creation of the environment for a better training of local translators who use the latest communication technologies.

The permanent organizer of the event is Business Bureau of the Translators Association LLC, the co-organizers of TFR 2020 are the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency and Kazan Federal University.

The agenda of the forum is scheduled for three days and is divided into four tracks:
- Translation specialization, issues of branch self-organization and education.
- Linguistic support as a business translation service (MLVs, LSPs, etc.).
- Technology in translation.
- Linguistic diversity, languages of the peoples of Russia.

The program will cover topics that represent interest to all categories of TFR participants: freelance translation, corporate translators, translation companies, universities and translator training courses, translation associations, suppliers and users of translation technologies and tools.

Furthermore, for the fourth time, a specialized Student Forum will be organized at Kazan Federal University, where students will be able to get acquainted with modern technical means for translators and communicate with industry leaders.
