Tatarstan Gulf Investment Company to Participate in Development of Kazan Smart City

30 April 2013, Tuesday

Gulf Investment Company and Tatarstan Development Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding during the first day of the Annual Investment Meeting 2013 in Dubai today regarding collaboration in the developing of Kazan Smart City.

The memorandum was signed at the Republic of Tatarstan’s stand at the forum in the presence of President of Tatarstan H.E. Rustam Minnikhanov, with whom representatives of the Tatarstan Gulf Investment Company (TGIC) met just prior to the signing of the agreement. During the meeting, TGIC explained that they are eager to participate in the development of Kazan Smart City, a groundbreaking urban development project that will transform Kazan into a full-fledged international business hub.

According to representatives of TGIC, projects such as Kazan Smart City have been tremendously successful worldwide in attracting foreign businesses and investment and in developing new sectors of the economy. Furthermore, they added, the project is especially appropriate for Tatarstan, given its strong economic indicators and existing experience in attracting foreign investment.

TGIC has been founded in 2013 by a group of investment companies from the Middle East specifically as a vehicle for investing in Kazan Smart City. Among the facilities in Kazan Smart City, TGIC is particularly interested in developing the Kazan International Conference and Exhibition Center and a business park in the Central Business District. TGIC is similarly planning on working on raising interest and investment in the project among other investors from the Middle East.

TGIC’s founders are a group of investment companies from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman with extensive experience in developing smart cities in the Middle East.
