A group of the world’s leading investment promotion agencies and investment promotion experts gathered in Istanbul on 2-3 May to exchange experience and best practices in the promotion and facilitation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
Entitled “Facilitating FDI Into Europe and Central Asia,” the conference was hosted by the World Bank Group’s Investment Climate Department in cooperation with the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT), which is also Vice President of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA).
The Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, a paragon of investment promotion in the Russian Federation and WAIPA Director of Eastern Europe, played an active role in the exchange of best practices and information that took place during the conference.
The program for the two-day event featured a mix of academic and practical debate of investment promotion and facilitation, with engaging discussion of best practices in a range of areas, among them fielding inquiries from investors, organizing and maintaining investment promotion websites, utilizing sector-specific promotion strategies, coordinating investment promotion with subordinate structures, and managing relationships with investors. The event program was curated by Robert Whyte, Global Specialist in Investment Promotion at the World Bank Group.
WAIPA President and Director-General of InvestHK Simon Galpin delivered a keynote speech at the event.
