"Kazan" airport opens a new runway

Today at the international airport "Kazan" was a grand opening of a new runway and reconstructed passenger platform. The ceremony was attended by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, as well as Deputy Director of the Federal Air Transport Agency Konstantin Mahov, Minister of Transport and Roads of Tatastan Lenar Safin, the mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, the head of Laishevsky municipal district Mikhail Afanasyev.

Reconstruction of airport "Kazan" flat constructions started in 2011 in preparation for the Universiade. Funding of work was by the federal target program "Development of transport system of Russia (2010-2020)", the total cost of the work amounted to 4.89 billion rubles.

The old runway of the airport, unused in recent years, has been extended and expanded - now with the length of 3750 m and a width of 60 m, it can take even the largest aircraft up to the A380. Now used runway will perform the role of the previously absent main taxiway, which will greatly increase the capacity of the strip.

On the basis of the forecast growth of passenger traffic intensity up to 2030 was significantly expanded passenger apron, an area now totals 164,000 square meters. There was also a reconstruction of connecting taxiways, sewage treatment plants, drainage network were built, replaced landing devices, air traffic control and lighting.

Today with a new platform and a new band was first technical flight. On board passenger aircraft A319 climbed builders, journalists and leaders of organizations responsible for the reconstruction. Circled over the airport, the plane landed safely on the new strip. At the gangway passengers were met by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan noted that the modernization of the "Kazan" airport is coming to the end - a renovated terminal 1 only is needed to open. Rustam Minnikhanov said that in the course of modernization a new terminal 1A, intermodal transport line was built. "We have a new airport-complex and the basis of it - a new band", - said the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.

He thanked the Government of Russia and the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation for the decision of the reconstruction of the airport for the Universiade - two years ahead of the scheduled date of FTP. Also Minnikhanov thanked Rosaviation, designers and builders. "Passenger traffic at the airport has already exceeded 1.5 million people a year and the power we already have is 2.4-2.5 million. Airport - is very important and necessary object", - said Rustam Minnikhanov. The President also presented awards of republic to the builders who worked on the reconstruction of planar structures.
