Gaidar Forum: Tatarstan as a region of sustainable economic development

In Moscow, during the one of the main world economics’ science events was held a separate panel session – «Tatarstan: creating the future».

Delegation of the Republic of Tatarstan in Gaidar Forum is headed by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The delegation consists of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Chief Executive Linar Yakupov, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan Midhat Shagiakhmetov, SEZ «Innopolis» CEO and representatives of the region’s business community.

Rustam Minnikhanov today took part in the plenary session – «Doing business in Russia 2.0», moderated by Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin. At the discussion the participants discussed the doing business rating, compiled by the World Bank.

President of the Republic of Tatarstan told about the experience of the republic in increasing region’s attractiveness for business. Rustam Minnikhanovalso noted the work that is doing for improving the investment attractiveness of the republic. The systematic work of the authorities lead to reducing the timing of documents receiving, reducing the rates of connecting to utility networks and the elimination of a number of obstacles to business. Were also noted an innovative industrial sites of the region - SEZ «Alabuga», technopolis «Himgrad», KIP «Master» and IT- parks.

At the panel discussion "Tatarstan: creating the future" the participants discussed the problems and challenges faced by Tatarstan, which is one of the most economically developed regions of Russia. The session was attended by Head of the International Monetary Fund in Russia Bicas Joshi, Ernst&Young Managing Partner Alexander Ivlev, Harvard University professor Timothy Colton, AbbVieEEME&A Operations Vice president Alberto Koltzi, Leontief Centre Deputy Director Boris Zhikharevich, «Troika-Dialog» investment company former head Ruben Vardanyan. Discussions moderator was Rector of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Mau.

The report of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan reflected the economic development of the republic and its future prospects. There was noted that the region now has the 5th place among the subjects of the federation on the GRP and industrial production, 4th place in terms of investment. Rustam Minnikhanov said that today to improve the competitiveness in Tatarstan creates Development Strategy until 2030.

Rustam Minnikhanov also told about the IT-sector of the republic, which is a new development direction of the territory, the formation of the Kama industrial cluster and creating major logistics hubs such as Sviazhsk multimodal logistics center.

President of the Republic of Tatarstan underscored the personnel policy in the region, noting that without the involvement of competent and qualified professionals, the objectivesof the republic cannot be realized, and therefore need to create the conditions to encourage people to live in Tatarstan. Among the tasks set by the region he noted the all areas development. «Development strategy of the republic is aimed to this direction», - he said.

Strategy details were presented during the presentations of speakers participated in the session. Experts underscored that the region moves forward, applying global best practices, drawing attention to its domestic market, highlighting sectors that interest investors.
