Tatarstan delegation meets with the leadership of Gehl Architects

In the company's office in Copenhagen discussed issues of further cooperation in the sphere of the urban environment and the formation of the «Great Kazan» concept.

The presentation of Gehl Architects noted the history of the company, history of the urban environment of Copenhagen. The company and its founder Ian Gale became pioneers in the field of urban space change. The first pedestrian street in Copenhagen appeared in 1962, in 1973 became the chain of streets. With the time in the city appeared more and more places to stay, pedestrian streets and squares, plazas, where there are no cars.

Among the concerns with the creation of pedestrian zones were slowing the development of business on these streets, reducing the number of people and reducing the volume of trade in the shops located here. But as the pedestrian zones increased, flow of people also increased. Further, it was decided to make a pedestrian street not only in the center of the city but also in other areas.

Large flow of cyclists in Copenhagen is also linked to the fact that was organized special bicycle paths for their movement. Studies in the organization of urban space have shown that with the advent of places for pedestrians, children's playgrounds, parks and gardens changed attitude of the townspeople, changed the culture of behavior.
