17 February 2016, Wednesday
Volga Agroindustrial Forum started at Kazanskaya Yarmarka on February 17. Summary session of Tatarstan Ministry of Agriculture and Food became the key meeting of extensive business program of forum work. Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the session on results of work of the agro-industrial complex in 2015 and tasks for 2016 in the framework of “Tatarstan – 2030” strategy. Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Chief Executive attended the session and opening of agroindustrial exhibition. “There is a proverb among investors: “Invest in land - it is no longer being produced”. Only 11% of land for cultivation above ground is appropriate for perfect crop growing. If we transfer it to figures, it equals to about 13 billion hectares. The rest soil is either arid or moist and excessively depleted. Natural wholefood will always be valued and in demand. World population, including Russia, grows every year and demand for quality products is growing correspondingly. This circumstance makes agricultural sector quite attractive for those planning to invest in this branch and eventually get a sustained profit. Moreover, investment in agriculture improves situation in republic sensibly: food stock is increasing constantly, economy is contributed significantly, and in addition, new working places are created. For example, realization of project of wholesale – logistic center, launched last September, will not only provide citizens with quality products from agricultural producers, including local farmers, but will also create over 2000 working places” – thinks Taliya Minullina.

Overall figures were represented during the session. In 2015, volume of agriculture gross output in all categories reached 213, 7 billion rubles, that is 4, 7 % higher. Tatarstan ranked 1st in gross output. Farmers produce almost 20% of agricultural production in Volga Federal region, covering less than 10% of agricultural lands. Republic holds 4th place among regions of Russia.
