“Peace, labor, may… KazanSummit”!

Ambassador of Mauritania will visit Kazan in May.

Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Mauritania to Russian Federation, Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb Amar, will participate in the work of VIII International economic summit “Russia – Islamic World: KazanSummit-2016”, held in the capital of Tatarstan from May 19 to 21.

Mauritania is a republic. The present Constitution is in force since July 1991. President of the country (Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz), elected by universal direct suffrage each 6 years, may be re-elected for unlimited number of times. Military council provides country guidance for justice and democracy after military coup in 2005.

Two years ago Central Bank of Mauritania declared its intention to develop Islamic finance in the framework of efforts to modernize fiscal system.  In the meantime the five-year program on fiscal system modernization was adopted. Stock exchange with Islamic derivatives trading and some Islamic banks were opened in the country.

Diplomatic relations between Mauritania and USSR were established on July 12, 1964. Economic and trade relations are limited, mainly in fishery. The cooperation is moving forward in education sector: about 400 Mauritanian students are studying in Russia.

It is remarkable that the longest goods train shuttles in Mauritania. Metallic mineral is the main cargo. Country does not grow any fruits or vegetables, except dates. Mangos and bananas are imported. Labor Day in this Islamic republic is also celebrated on the first of May.
