A group of the world’s leading investment promotion agencies and investment promotion experts gathered in Istanbul on 2-3 May to exchange experience and best practices in the promotion and facilitation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).


Entitled “Facilitating FDI Into Europe and Central Asia,” the conference was hosted by the World Bank Group’s Investment Climate Department in cooperation with the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT), which is also Vice President of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA).

Tatarstan Investment Development Agency and Thomson Reuters signed a memorandum of intentions in Dubai today on the matter of becoming an information partner for Kazan Smart City and participating in the development of the business infrastructure and information services of the project.


The memorandum was signed during a visit to Thomson Reuters’ Dubai office as part of an official visit of a delegation for the Republic of Tatarstan headed by President Rustam Minnikhanov to Dubai from 30 April to 2 May to participate in the III Annual Investment Meeting.

Tatarstan Gulf Investment Company and Tatarstan Development Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding during the first day of the Annual Investment Meeting 2013 in Dubai today regarding collaboration in the development of Kazan Smart City.

The memorandum was signed at the Republic of Tatarstan’s stand at the forum in the presence of President of Tatarstan H.E. Rustam Minnikhanov, with whom representatives of the Tatarstan Gulf Investment Company (TGIC) met just prior to the signing of the agreement. During the meeting, TGIC explained that they are eager to participate in the development of Kazan Smart City, a groundbreaking urban development project that will transform Kazan into a full-fledged international business hub.

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with Vice President of Cisco Andy MacDonald in Dubai today during the III Annual Investment Meeting.

During the meeting the two sides discussed Cisco’s role in the ICT infrastructure of Kazan Smart City. Following the meeting, Cisco and the Tatarstan Development Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding, under which Cisco will develop the ICT Master Plan for Kazan Smart City.

The Tatarstan Investment Development Agency took part in its first World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) Steering Committee meeting today in its role as WAIPA Director of Eastern Europe.

Held in the headquarters of Dubai FDI in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the meeting was the first gathering of WAIPA’s new SteeringCommittee, which was elected by the WAIPA General Assembly in February 2012. During that General Assembly TIDA was elected to the WAIPA Directorship of Eastern Europe, unseating then incumbent director, the Public Agency of theRepublic of Slovenia for Entrepreneurship and Foreign Investments.

An official delegation lead by Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Chief Executive Linar Yakupov visited Doha, Qatar on 27-28 April to present the investment and trade opportunities available in the Republic of Tatarstan.

During the two-day stay the delegation met with Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of Al Faisal Holding and the Qatari Businessmen Association; Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce; the Board of Directors of Energy City Qatar; and a number of other Qatari investors and businessmen with holdings in real estate, hospitality, and financial industry.

Amanah Capital Group Limited (ACGL) has opened a representative office in Kazan headed by Branch Manager Ajay Nair, a move intended to engage more with the opportunities available in Tatarstan and the Russian Federation.

 

Kamarul Zamri, ACGL Vice President of International Business will oversee operations of the Kazan office.

Based in Malaysia and specializing in corporate advisory and business consulting, the company has been playing an increasingly active role in Tatarstan since signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the TatarstanInvestment Development Agency at Kazan Summit: VI International Summit on Economic Coperation of the Russian Federation and OIC Countries in May 2012.

Tatarstan Investment Development Agency met with representatives of the republic’s municipalities in Kazan IT-Park as part of preparatory work for the next meeting of the Investment Board of the Republic of Tatarstan. The gathering, which took the form of an informational seminar, featured presentations by TIDA Chief Executive Linar Yakupov, First Deputy Chief Executive Robert Galiullin, and other TIDA officials.

The Investment Board of the Republic of Tatarstan was created by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in July 2012 as an advisory board to issues regarding investment in the republic. The Investment Board is chaired by President Rustam Minnikahnov. TIDA is responsible for coordinating the board’s activities.

Tatarstan Investment Development Agency is launching a series of business briefings in the eight priority investment industries of the republic: chemical & petrochemical, machinery & automotive parts production, construction & building materials production, medicine & pharmaceuticals, IT & telecommunications, agriculture & food processing, halal industry, and service industry & tourism.

The first briefing, which will be held on 11 April, will feature discussion about the halal industry, a young but rapidly developing sector of the Tatarstan economy. The briefing is being organized by TIDA jointly with the National Association of Halal Industry and the Standards Committee of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan.
